Duties & Responsibilities

CBS Squared is seeking an energetic, highly motivated, detail oriented Senior Traffic Engineer who will complete and oversee a variety of professional engineering assignments in one or more specialized areas of transportation systems and programs involving research, planning, design, technology, materials, construction, traffic safety, traffic operations, and maintenance of highways, bridges, railways, and related structures and technological devices and applications.

Responsibilities

• Lead, plan, train, and supervise the work of engineering staff responsible for traffic and transportation engineering; verify the work of assigned employees for accuracy, proper work methods, techniques, and compliance with applicable standards and specifications.  

• Review plans for streets and interchanges prepared by staff to see that they meet established specifications.  

• Prepare, review, and implement traffic signalization plans; review traffic signal operations and verify correct operation.

• Perform advanced professional engineering work in connection with municipal and state traffic projects.  

• Gather and interpret data and prepare reports on traffic issues such as speeding, volume, circulation patterns, roadway capacity, accidents, parking requirements and projected traffic lanes needed.

• Develop volumes and project traffic forecasts.

• Conduct capacity analyses using HCM, Synchro, and SimTraffic.

• Contribute to development of complex microsimulation models using VISSIM and TransModeler.

• Conduct safety analyses using Highway Safety Manual (HSM) methods.

• Exhibit a clear understanding of traffic engineering principles.

• Operate with attention to detail and willingness to proofread your own work and work of peers.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of experience in a similar position including traffic analysis and traffic engineering/design

• Must be willing to locate to Wisconsin or Minnesota

• Graduate with Civil Engineering degree along with a focus or emphasis in Transportation

Specific Qualifications

• PE is required

• AICP is preferred  

• Hands-on experience with Highway Capacity Software, Synchro/SimTraffic, VISSIM, or TransModeler

• Familiarity with High Safety Manual procedures, tools, and concepts

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Commitment to being a team player

• Ability to schedule workload, meet deadlines and project deliverables

• Prior experience with railroad preemption is a plus
