Duties & Responsibilities

CBS Squared, Inc. seeks an energetic, highly motivated, detail-oriented, self-starter to join our team as a Professional Land Surveyor in any of our 6 offices (Appleton, WI; Chippewa Falls, WI; Madison, WI; Waukesha WI; La Crosse, WI; or Minneapolis, MN).

The position is for full-time employment.  

Requirements

  • The candidate must be a Professional Land Surveyor in the State of Wisconsin, the State of Minnesota or be on track to obtain a license in a short period of time.
  • Must be able to operate a total station and GPS survey equipment.  
  • The candidate will lead our survey and right of way department in completing right of way plats for municipal, county and transportation related projects; general topographic surveys; property and right of way surveys including temporary and permanent right of way monumentation; and construction staking.  
  • The applicant must have recent experience with CAD software, Civil 3d and MicroStation is preferred.  
  • The ideal candidate can expect to work on a wide variety of projects both large- and small-scale.
  • The position requires the candidate to hold a valid driver’s license and be able to provide their own transportation to project sites as necessary.  Candidate will be reimbursed for use of their own vehicle.  We offer an excellent benefit and compensation package.

Responsibilities

  • Perform field work as a survey specialist capable of operating a full range of survey equipment including electronic measuring devices, total station, GPS, and other technical surveying and engineering equipment.
  • Lead the preparation of right-of-way plats and maps for state, county and municipal projects.
  • Prepare legal descriptions and plat maps; reset section corners as needed.
  • General surveying and measuring of existing features in the field.
  • Assist in estimating the cost to complete surveys for field work.
  • Assist engineering staff with engineering design tasks as needed.
  • Perform Civil 3D or MicroStation drafting for plat preparation.
  • Know plat procedures for state reviews and applicable WI statutes for developing plats.
  • Perform other tasks deemed necessary by project manager from time to time.

Qualifications

The appropriately qualified candidate will have the following core competencies and required experience:

• Associate degree plus a minimum of three (3) years of experience.

• A high level of competency with survey equipment and right-of-way surveys.

• A high level of competency with right-of-way plats and maps.

• A high level of competency with CAD software (Civil 3D and MicroStation), Microsoft Word and Excel.

• Must be able to interpret technical specifications; good math & CAD skills are required.

• A sound knowledge of engineering and survey principles.

• An understanding of construction methods.

• Good numeracy and computer skills.

• Good communication skills.

• Good problem-solving skills with the ability to develop solutions.

• The ability to work as part of a team.

• The ability to meet budgets and deadlines.
