Duties & Responsibilities

The applicant must have significant and recent experience in Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) or Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) highway design and plan preparation. Desirable experience includes AutoCAD or MicroStation cad software and In-Roads or Civil 3D design software, knowledge of the Trans220 utility coordination requirements, and background in writing design reports and environmental documents preferred. The ideal candidate can expect to work on a wide variety of transportation projects both large- and small-scale.

  • Lead the design and delivery of highway projects from conceptual studies to preliminary and final design.
  • Utilize design software to perform detailed design of transportation and municipal projects.
  • Utilize AutoCAD or MicroStation to prepare design details.
  • Develop specifications and cost estimates in accordance with WisDOT and MnDOT standards.
  • Write design reports and environmental documents in accordance with WisDOT and MnDOT guidelines and standards.
  • Lead utility coordination in accordance with Trans220 requirements on WisDOT projects.
  • Perform other high level design tasks deemed necessary by project manager.
  • General surveying and measuring of existing features in the field.
  • Supervision and mentoring of junior technical staff!

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree plus a minimum of Ten (10) years of relevant design experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree plus a minimum of Five (5) years of relevant design experience.
  • Ability to lead the design on multiple projects at once.
  • Highly developed analytical and problem solving skills.
  • A high level of competency with AutoCAD or MicroStation, Microsoft Word and Excel.

Conditions of Employment

The positions requires the candidate to hold a valid driver’s license and be able to provide their own transport to project sites as necessary. The position requires the candidate be capable of lifting and moving up to 40 pounds. We offer an excellent benefit and compensation package.
